Invy Lifesavers Have New Clubhouse

What: The official opening of the $1.3m Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Clubhouse

By Bass Coast - 19th January 2011 - Back to News

When: Wednesday, 26 January at 1.00pm

Where: Goroke Street Carpark, Surf Parade, Inverloch

Who: Ken Smith MLA, Mr Russell Broadbent MHR Member for McMillan, Cr Gareth Barlow, Cr Ross Smith, Life Saving Victoria Executive, Inverloch and District Community Bank Board members, club members and many community partners and sponsors.

Why: The club has not had proper facilities since it was established. Old facilities used by the club include three shipping containers in the Goroke Street car park, a loaned storage shed at the Western Beach Caravan Park, patrol vehicle and trailers kept at the back of the police station and other club assets spread around the local membership base.

How: In 2004, the process officially began with a master plan for the site. The club then created a business plan and gained permission from the Department of Sustainability and Environment to use the land. Sport and Recreation Victoria provided $500,000 in funding after the club, through Council, submitted a grant application.

Many community partners and individuals have contributed financially and inkind to make this project a reality from the Inverloch & District Community Bank, Life Saving Victoria, Bass Coast Community Foundation, Inverloch Jazz Festival, Thiess Degremont, LJ Hooker Real Estate, local Lions and Rotary Clubs, Council and the Club itself have all contributed.

Photo opportunities: Available at the event
