Council also agreed to endorse the Consultant Brief, Issues Paper and Draft Community Engagement Plan for the project.

A consultant team will now be appointed to work with Council and the community to develop the Plan.

Thompson Ward Councillor Andrew Phillips said the Cowes Activity Centre Plan had been identified in Council’s Annual Action Plan 2013-14, and has received significant State Government funding.

"The project will establish a vision for Cowes and how it is to be implemented," Cr Phillips said.

"It will deliver on the ground results, and can be used to attract significant funding from other levels of government in the future."

Cr Phillips said the focus of the Cowes Activity Centre Plan was to engage with the community to identify community views and aspirations for the future of the Cowes activity centre.

"These will translate into a comprehensive plan for Cowes that can be used to deliver projects for the township," Cr Phillips said.

"The plan will consider issues such as township revitalisation, traffic, road infrastructure, tourism, and amenity for those living in and visiting the Cowes activity centre.

"It will help Council prioritise investment in economic development, infrastructure and environment.

"The hard part now is making sure we unite all sections of the community."
