Stage six of the Thompson Avenue redevelopment will start on Monday 2 July and the overall project is on target to be completed by mid to late August.

Stage six is on the western side of Thompson Avenue and starts from the newsagent and ends at Chapel Street. Much of the work in this section of Thompson Avenue involves building or redeveloping sixteen angle car parks.

It is expected that stage six will be completed by 24 July.

“Now that changes and improvements are obvious, we are receiving positive feedback about the redevelopment,” said Cr. Sage. “Of course, some traders are expressing frustration during the works but Council’s contractor is making every effort to minimise inconvenience to traders and shoppers alike.”

Work has started early each morning to ensure minimal disruption to traders, shoppers and visitors. The site is progressively tidied up to ensure the area remains as safe and neat as possible throughout construction works.

The total cost of the Thompson Avenue Redevelopment is $1.2 million. Bass coast Shire Council has contributed $500,000 and local property owners have contributed $150,000. The State Government has contributed the remaining $550,000 through the community support fund and powerline relocation committee.

Building works are also taking place around the corner on Chapel Street where a new public transport interchange is being built. The interchange will include bus and taxi loading areas and a shelter for passengers.
