Many people in Australia believe that we need a new flag - not the flag that we have today. The flag which does not represent the multiculture that exists within our Nation. A flag that screams - Made In Britain.
This is the fundamental belief of Robert "King" Crawford the artist, author and designer of the Australian Flag of Unity. "This is the world’s most meaningful flag a flag of memories, leadership and rebirth" says Mr. Crawford.
The flag which he began designing 14 years ago has steadily gained support from many people, among those being the former Democrats leader Natasha Stott Despoja. A network of people who support and promote the flag has been set up. ‘Friends of the Flag’ attend National gatherings proudly showing off the flag of the future.
It is no doubt that the Unity Flag has all the right components to be the flag of our great Nation. But unfortunately getting the government to agree is a hard task in deed. Mr. Crawford stated that "the flag will not prevail while John Howard is in power. The government is scared of a flag that means so much."
Since the flag gained popularity the phones at Robert Crawfords residence have been tapped and any support that the flag began to receive from politicians has been quickly extinguished. "The power of the flag, not just the look of the flag, but what it means is everything - and that is what some people fear."
Australian people all around the Nation need to get behind this flag. To realize that this is the flag of today, tomorrow and the past. Grab it. It is yours, not another Nation’s. It is dedicated to you and all Australians.
