Residential & Rural Residential StrategyMaffra residents are being given the opportunity to help shape the future of their town By Karen Gregory - 30th July 2002 - Back to News Maffra residents are being given the opportunity to help shape the future of their town.
Wellington Shire Council is calling for the community to assist in developing a strategy for future residential development of Maffra and district.
Council is preparing a Residential and Rural Residential Strategy investigating current and future residential development opportunities for Maffra, Boisdale, Newry, & Tinamba.
The strategy forms part of a wider plan to review the supply, demand and suitability of residential and rural residential zoned land across the Shire.
When the State Government’s Minister for Planning approved Wellington’s Planning Scheme, Council was tasked to prepare a residential and rural residential strategy for the Shire.
First cab off the rank was the Sale and Environs District Report released last year.
"We asked the community to become involved in every one of these reports from the outset," said Wellington Mayor Malcolm Hole.
"This way, we can make sure that our strategy meets the needs, hopes and aspirations of each community.
"It’s important that everyone has their say in shaping future directions for development of our Shire.
The strategy will take into account predicted residential development needs for at least the next 10 to 15 years.
A Maffra and Environs Information Brochure has been prepared and is available from Council’s Port of Sale Civic Centre, Maffra library, mobile library, Maffra Resource Centre and on Council’s website: www.wellington.vic.gov.au.
As well as giving a brief outline of the current trends, projections, current supply and future demand, and future residential and rural residential growth options for Maffra, the brochure contains a questionnaire that can be filled in as a written submission for Council consideration.
More detailed written submissions are welcome and should be submitted by 27 September 2002.
Those interested in the strategy should call Council’s Strategic Planner, Jason Pullman, on 5142 3361 for further information or to arrange a meeting.
