How To Promote Your WebsiteThere are billions of websites out there, and getting discovered requires some work By Emma Kae - 16th July 2002 - Back to News It is a common misconception that simply having a website will be enough of a promotional tool in itself. Newsflash: there are billions of websites out there, and getting discovered (not to mention used and remembered) requires some work. Let people know about the great products and services you have to offer online by promoting your website to existing an potential customers.
Many of the tactics you may decide to use are as simple as updating or adding to existing promotional material you have – such as stationary. Ensure your stationary includes your website and e-mail addresses. Stationary includes any piece of paper that leaves your office, such as business cards, letterheads, envelopes, address labels, fax cover sheets, checks, invoices, receipts and re-order forms.
You may wish to invest in a small forte of promotional items – tangible objects that people use on a daily basis – inscripted with your company and website details. Promotional items can serve to keep your website address in front of prospective clients and remind them of the products and services that you have to offer. Such promotional items include pens, coffee mugs, calendars, key chains, magnets, bumper stickers, even t-shirts.
General, old fashioned advertising is a great way to get your message out there. The fact that advertising is continually growing indicates that it works. Advertising is an effective way to familiarise people with your business, products, services and of course, your website address, which should be a predominant part of your ad. Advertising can include placing classifieds in your local paper, a listing in the Yellow Pages, a spot on the local tv guide, radio time, a television slot, direct mail-outs, a flyer drop, or a press release in a newspaper or magazine.
With a little thought and planning, your website could be as well known as Google.com, Amazon.com or Hotmail.com… Okay, perhaps not, but it’s a nice idea.
