Head Coach Appointed For Latrobe Training Volleyball ProgramAn update from the Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Academy of Sport By Andrew Pomeroy - 16th July 2002 - Back to News Gippsland Sports Academy Volleyball has appointed Dan Higgins to the role of Head Coach. Higgins, originally from Maffra has resided in Melbourne for the past 15 years and is keen to give back to the sport in the area where he originally played.
Higgins said ‘Since moving to Melbourne I have coached Victorian teams since 1986 and have coached the Australian Junior Men’s team in 80 International Matches, so it’s time for me to develop players and coaches in Gippsland’ Higgins has 6 assistant coaches and 35 players.
Team Manager Danny Anderson is please that Higgins was appointed to "head up" the coaching team because ‘coaches in the area need to develop their methods’ and sees this as a prime opportunity to have an experienced metro based coach work with coaches and athletes. Anderson went on to say that Higgins has developed 18 athletes to represent Australia previously and his methods are up to date and forward thinking so coaches working with Higgins will be exposed to new methods of athlete development and this will have a positive effect on the region.
