Local Businesses To Take On World Export MarketsSmall and medium sized businesses to gain exposure to international markets By GACC - 2nd July 2002 - Back to News Small and medium sized businesses throughout Gippsland will have the opportunity to gain exposure to international markets with the assistance of a Federal Government grant of $77,000 to develop new export opportunities. Gippsland Area Consultative Committee has initiated funding through the Regional Assistance Programme to assist selected business analyse their export potential using the TradeData business information service.
TradeData is based at Victoria University’s Centre for Strategic Economic Studies. It maintains large data sets on detailed ‘real time’ international export market information. It has a history of assisting small to medium firms in Melbourne and interstate learn how to analyse and make use of this information for their specific market purposes.
TradeData and the Gippsland ACC will encourage local firms, across all market types, to participate in a seminar and follow up activities, and benefit from TradeData’s research and analysis skills and expertise. It is anticipated that the project will operate from August through to January.
Gippsland firms have not previously had access to such sophisticated or practical international market analysis skills development. TradeData will work intensively with each firm to identify and evaluate how to best tap into international business opportunities.
Maree McPherson, Executive Director of Gippsland ACC said that funding would maximise the benefits for local firms and deliver positive outcomes for the community in the way of employment growth and business development. "The project demonstrates how a partnership between the Government and the community can deliver a positive outcome for regional growth" said Ms McPherson.
