almost $10 million for all three programs.

Latrobe City Council’s deputy mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said that ensuring roads and footpaths were well maintained was a top priority.

"We’ve committed $850K to the footpath replacement program and $4.5m to the road reseals program and a further $3.5m to the road rehabilitation program in the draft budget. Eight roads across the City will be fully rehabilitated under this program.

"Further funding for three gravel roads across the municipality to be sealed has also been included under Council’s Special Charge Scheme. There is also a commitment to construct a footpath from Rose Avenue to Parkhaven Way in Traralgon," Cr Gibson said.

"Smaller capital works projects have also been given the nod including improvements to the intersection at North Road and Rossmore Road, Yallourn North and the installation of a temporary roundabout at Market and Albert Street, Moe. Both of these projects have had significant community interest and we are extremely pleased that we will be able to deliver them in the 2013/14 year.

"We are aware that with budget pressures, particularly in light of the Defined Benefits Superannuation call, some local governments have had to reduce their spending in important areas such as road an footpath maintenance. Latrobe City haven’t cut back in this important area of asset management and are committed to providing safe and well maintained roads and footpaths across Latrobe City. Investing in these sorts of maintenance programs often save money in the long run so committing the funds in the draft budget makes sense for the long-term assurance of our road and pavement network," Cr Gibson concluded.
