Scenic Estate Works To Start SoonConstruction on walking tracks and a boardwalk within the new Scenic Estate Conservation Reserve at Surf Beach on Phillip Island will begin at the end of November. By Bass Coast - 19th November 2014 - Back to News Preparation is currently underway for the works to start, with the trimming of vegetation to allow access for construction.
Bass Coast Shire Coucnil Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine, said the works will link the car park to the Ramsar Wetland and all construction would be done on Council owned land and Phillip Island Nature Parks (PINP) managed land.
"Once complete, the Scenic Estate Conservation Reserve will include a car park off Phillip Island Tourist Road to allow for easy and safe access to the reserve, a boardwalk through the native grasslands 195 metres in length, and a viewing platform overlooking the Ramsar Wetland with interpretation signage," Cr Rankine said.
"A wetland will also be planted with native plants to create habitat for wildlife, while 900 metres of gravel walking tracks will take visitors through a variety of indigenous vegetation in the reserve to the viewing area."
PINP are planning revegetation of the foreshore, while Parks Victoria will carry out planting of mangroves in the Ramsar Wetland.
Funds for the Conservation Reserve have been received from the Victorian Governments Regional Growth Fund, PINP and Parks Victoria, as well as a contribution from Council.
