$1.66 Million Specialist Skills Boost for Federation TrainingAccess to cutting edge training for local Yallourn TAFE students soon! By Portal Admin - 22nd October 2018 - Back to News Local Yallourn TAFE students will soon have access to even more cutting edge training thanks to a $1.66 million Andrews Labor Government funding boost to Federation Training’s Yallourn Campus.
At the Yallourn campus today, Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing announced the funding which will deliver three separate courses, training an additional 40 students under Labor’s Regional Specialist Training Fund.
The courses, which include the Cert III in Instrumentation and Control, Cert III in Engineering Mechanical Trade and the Cert III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade have been identified as matching industry-led demand for the specific skills these courses offer.
Funding for the Cert III in Instrumentation and Control ($250,000) will introduce the latest in modern technology and provides an excellent option for former Hazelwood employees who need upskilling to find work in the renewable energy sector.
Funding for the Cert III in Engineering Mechanical Trade ($922,000) includes upgrading plant equipment helping trainers close the gap between current practices and industry needs.
And funding for the Cert III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade ($489,000) will include an upgrade to the machinery that is actually being used in the industry today.
The Regional Specialist Training Fund, part of the Labor Government’s Skills First initiative, which is ensuring students receive high quality training that delivers the workforce skills employers need.
The Fund is supporting Victorian TAFEs and training providers to work in partnership with industry to develop innovative new training programs, products and projects that harness the very latest technologies and approaches.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 is also investing an additional $644 million to strengthen TAFE, address skills shortages and ensure all Victorians can access the training they need to get a good job.
To make it easier to access training, the Government is investing $172 million to make 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses that lead to jobs that are most in demand from Victorian employers tuition free.
