Meningococcal C Reminder

Wellington Shire Council is reminding residents that the national Meningococcal C immunisation catch-up program will cease on 30 June.

Up until the 30 June all people between the ages of one and 22 who have not received a dose of the Meningococcal C vaccine are eligible to receive the immunisation free of charge.

The immunisation is available at the regular community session to be held this Wednesday 28 June at Central Gippsland Health Service Conference Room, Cnr Palmerston and Cunningham Streets, Sale 10.30-11.30 Bookings are not required.

As of the 1 July 2006, Meningococcal C vaccine will continue to be funded as a part of the National Immunisation Schedule for children aged 12 months and a catch up program for children born on or after 1 January 2002.

During 2003 and 2004, the Wellington Shire Immunisation program visited all primary and secondary schools within the Shire to administer the immunisation. Since the introduction of this program, the Department of Human Services has demonstrated a 95% reduction in the number of Meningococcal C notifications.
