Input Needed On Plan For Inverloch Foreshore

Inverloch residents are being urged to provide feedback on the recently released draft Inverloch Foreshore Master Plan.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 16th November 2007 - Back to News

It is hoped that the Master Plan will guide the future management and development of the Inverloch Foreshore.

Bass Coast Shire Council put together the Master Plan, which covers the Inverloch Foreshore Reserve, St Kilda Street to Cuttriss Street.

The Plan also considers The Glade Activity Area including Rainbow Park, The Glade, and the land on the corner of The Esplanade and Ramsey Boulevard.

Council’s Environment Manager, Paul Smith, said the Plan was meant to be a detailed document that clearly identified the main issues facing the area.

"The Plan describes the main issues, and puts down a series of actions that would address them," said Mr Smith.

"Our initial consultation showed that providing adequate infrastructure, such as footpaths, car parks and public picnic facilities, was a priority for the Inverloch community.

"Properly managing the environment and looking after the cultural heritage of the foreshore are also clearly important."

Mr Smith said the growing population and increase in visitor numbers meant the Inverloch foreshore was becoming more and more popular.

"We need to make sure the unique character of the reserve is preserved," said Mr Smith.

"We also need to plan now for the increasing use in future years."

Mr Smith said that community feedback was a very important part of the planning process.

"We need to be sure that the issues identified in the Plan are the ones the Inverloch community feel are the most important," said Mr Smith.

"If other issues are raised through this feedback, then we will have the opportunity to include them in the final plan."

Copies of the Draft Plan, Executive Summary and feedback forms are available on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au. Copies are also available from Inverloch and Wonthaggi service centres in hard copy (black and white) and on CD (colour).
