Smashing Upgrade for Traralgon Tennis ComplexTraralgon Tennis Complex: Ready for action By Portal Admin - 27th May 2018 - Back to News The Traralgon Tennis Complex is ready for action thanks to a $400,000 upgrade from the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Sport John Eren officially opened the redeveloped facility today, which will bring the best the game has to offer to the Latrobe Valley.
Home to the annual AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International and ATP Challenger tournaments, the upgrade will give the club more power to bid for even bigger events.
This could include Davis Cup and Federation Cup ties, bringing more visitors to the region, supporting local businesses and cementing Gippsland as a regional sporting hub.
Works to resurface 14 courts, replace the club’s 40-year-old perimeter fencing and more groundworks will be completed this month, ensuring the world class venue can continue to attract top-level international competitions and provide the best facilities for the local community.
The project created local jobs with Morwell based contractor Dynamic Industries appointed for the fencing works, using locally sourced steel and sub-contractors.
The redevelopment was funded through the Labor Government’s Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative – an $85 million investment in sports and community infrastructure, events and associated support programs.
The Labor Government proudly supports events hosted at the Traralgon Tennis Complex, such as the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International through the Significant Sporting Events Program.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 invests $17.7 million for the Significant Sporting Events Program, which will fund more than 75 national and international sporting events every year – more than half of them in regional Victoria.
Quote attributable to Minister for Sport John Eren:
"Today is a proud day for the players, fans and volunteers that make this club tick every day – this redevelopment means more events and the very best facilities for locals."
Quote attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing:
"This complex is such a great celebration of a club that’s going from strength to strength and it’s been a real pleasure to support this growth and investment for the code, and the community."
Quote attributable to Traralgon Tennis Association Manager Susie Grumley:
"The upgrade is wonderful to see and is extremely important for the Traralgon Tennis Association to improve our facilities for our local competitions and members and to secure our two international events that we hold here each year."
