Churchill children share in theatre history as iconic show 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' visits Little TheatreThe Very Hungry Caterpillar emerges off the page in a masterful theatrical experience for children, is now visiting the Little Theatre. By news@gippsland - 8th June 2021 - Back to News Churchill children share in theatre history – and an iconic show, a timeless children’s tale continues to enchant boys and girls across Latrobe City, after 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' show was staged at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre, Traralgon on 17 May.

Hosting grand productions
The show was one of the last to be held at the arts centre’s Little Theatre ahead of the opening of the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) later this year. GPAC will be a spectacular theatre able to host grand productions that arts lovers previously would have travelled to Melbourne to see.
Being part of the final chapter
Among the audience were children from Glendonald Preschool at Churchill. The preschool team was particularly delighted to be among those theatre-goers being part of the final chapter in the theatre’s history, especially as Assistant Preschool Teacher Sharyn Giles sang at the opening of the Little Theatre in 1972.
She was a student of Traralgon High School at the time and was part of the school’s musical performance, The Daniel Jazz. Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said the production brought the magic of the late author Eric Carle’s picture books to life. "I love this book and so do the children of today and yesteryear. Seeing the joy on the faces of the children of Glendonald Preschool warmed the cockles of my heart," Cr Gibson said.
Featuring loveable puppets
'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' show performance featured 75 loveable puppets and adapted four of Carle’s stories, including Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and the star of the show, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', which has sold more than 45 million copies.
