Loch Sport youth be heard!

Loch Sport youth can have their say on entertainment opportunities, activities, issues and services in their area when Wellington Shire Council holds a public meeting on Wednesday November 24 at the Loch Sport Community Hall from 7.00pm.

By Wellington Shire Council - 16th November 2004 - Back to News

The council is encouraging all young people, representatives of community organisations, parents and interested community members from Loch Sport and surrounds to attend this interactive session to benefit the area’s youth.

Hot topics up for discussion will include an update and future plans for The Tool Shed including potential projects for the venue. The Tool Shed will be open for inspection between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday November 24 to coincide with the meeting.

It also marks the first opportunity for Loch Sport youngsters to float their ideas about the soon-to-be established Loch Sport Youth Committee which is part of the council’s Youth District Advisory Network (YDAN). The YDAN creates an effective framework to develop and conduct youth events – including the FReeZA live music shows - and identify youth issues affecting the area.

Wellington Shire Council’s Youth Development Officer, David Roberts will be on-hand at the meeting to consult with attendees.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "Doing our research is the most important factor in ensuring we communicate and connect effectively with our target groups throughout the community. These interactive sessions facilitate two-way communication with the council and give the community the opportunity to actively participate in the decision- making process. By correctly identifying what the shire wants and needs, we can go forward and provide the best services and facilities possible to our residents."
