Shire to recognise local achieversMayor of the Baw Baw Shire, Cr Geoff Davey, is urging the community to help support the Baw Baw Shire 2003 Achievement Awards. By Baw Baw Shire Council - 7th August 2003 - Back to News The 2003 Achievement Awards will be presented at a Civic Function in October and Council is calling for nominations from the community. Categories include Individual Achievement, Youth, Community Service, Sport and Business.
Cr Davey said that award presentations such as these are valuable in recognising community members who may not have been formally recognised before.
"Baw Baw is blessed with a wealth of talent. Achievers such as Cathy Watt, Lionel Rose, and Margaret Jackson immediately spring to mind. But each day there are local achievers going about their business with only minimal recognition from their community."
Cr Davey also commented on the number of volunteers and community service providers who often receive little thanks for all that they do.
"We are a strong community that is built on the hard work and dedication of people who give their time to helping others. Help us to thank them and tell them how much we appreciate their efforts."
"I can guarantee that each of you will know someone who is achieving in their chosen field. Or perhaps you are aware of a younger member of our community who would benefit from this type of acknowledgement. We need your help to identify these special people."
Nomination forms are available from all Council customer service centres and can also be downloaded from Council’s website at www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au.
