San Remo Gets Cooking

Local residents can be part of a new reality TV show when the Great Aussie Cook Off comes to San Remo on Saturday, 5 September.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 21st August 2009 - Back to News

The show will be filmed on the San Remo foreshore between 9.00am and 1.00pm, with grandstand seating available for the local audience.

Two families will go head to head in a seafood themed Cook Off. The families must each cook a three course meal in just 30 minutes. Legendary food critic, Peter Doyle, and hosts Vince Sorrenti and Jo Silvagni will be on site as part of the production.

A foreshore farmers market with a focus on local produce has also been organised, so there will be lots for people to see, do and taste!

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane, said he hoped that people would come down to the San Remo foreshore and support the event.

"The market will run from 8.30am until 1.00pm and it is a great opportunity for people to pick up some fresh food and great local produce," said Mr Angarane.

"There will be a focus on food, including fresh vegetables and fruit, cheese, pate, seafood, pies, jams, liquorice, fruit juice, puddings, breads, meat and curry pastes.

"Local traders will also be involved in the market, so there will be plenty of chances to sample the wares on offer."

While there will be restrictions to car parking in the area adjacent to the Fisherman’s Co-op there will be access to the Co-op and the Jetty.

"It will definitely be business as normal in San Remo, so come down and support your local area and experience the excitement of recording a television show," encouraged Mr Angarane.

"Audiences right across Australia will be watching the show later this year, so it is a great opportunity to showcase San Remo and our local area."
