Motorcycle Training facility in Latrobe Valley must remain open
Member for Morwell, Russell Northe has raised in Parliament his concern surrounding the possible closure of another business within the Latrobe Valley.
Quality Motorcycle Training (QMT) located in Newborough is the only accredited VicRoads provider for the riding community from Dandenong to Bairnsdale. QMT are facing closure as a result of their lease not being extended on the current operating site in Newborough."Losing a business that services the community as a matter of road safety is not something we should let happen" Mr Northe said.
QMT has only been established since November 2016, but it has filled a very important market in Gippsland resulting in more than 350 riding permits and licences being issued. Ensuring that motorcycle accidents/deaths continue to reduce in the Gippsland Region is absolutely vital and QMT has played a key role in this regard.
As the only accredited motorcycle training provider in Central Gippsland, QMT needs urgent support to keep its doors open at its current site or assistance to relocate to an alternate location within the Latrobe Valley. The Premier Daniel Andrews has previously said that he would "fight for every job", but the Premier now needs to honour those words with actions and save this business and these jobs.
"The closure of QMT will ultimately cause the loss of more jobs within the Latrobe Valley. With the closures of major employers, such as Hazelwood and Carter Holt Harvey it is imperative now more than ever that every job in our region is maintained" said Mr Northe
