Beware of stock on roads and heed warning signs

Wellington Shire Council is urging motorists to take extra care when travelling on rural roads at the moment.

By Wellington Shire Council - 4th July 2003 - Back to News

The Shire has increased the number of permits issued to farmers to graze stock on roadsides in an effort to assist those struggling with drought conditions. This means motorists are more likely to encounter stock. They need to keep vigilant for altered road conditions and warnings such as ‘Give Way to Stock’ signs and flashing beacons.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "Our Council permits are tightly controlled and farmers must observe the conditions. Motorists will need to be patient and sympathetic to the farmers’ plight and watching out for stock on rural roads.

"Warning signage is used wherever possible and drivers need to keep a look out for this."
