Summer Bus Service Returns

Following the success of the service last year, the Bass Coast Summer Bus Service between Inverloch and Cowes will operate again over the summer period.

By Bass Coast Transport Connections - 14th November 2005 - Back to News

"Almost 500 passengers used the Summer Bus Service," said John Sanderson, Bass Coast Transport Connections Project Facilitator and coordinator of the service.

"A recent agreement between the Department of Infrastructure, Bass Coast Shire Council and Bass Coast Transport Connections has secured funding to operate it again."

The service will operate weekdays and Saturdays between Monday 19 December 2005 and Saturday 28 January 2006. There will be no services on a Sunday.

"We have made some modifications to the service, responding to community demands," said Mr Sanderson.

"The service will still run between Inverloch and Cowes both in the morning and afternoon giving people plenty of time to do their shopping, go to the beach or visit friends."

The single fare between Wonthaggi and Cowes has been set at $6.50 for a full fare and $3.20 for a concession fare.

Intermediate fares along the route will depend upon the distance travelled, for example:

* full fare between Inverloch and Wonthaggi will be $3.00, with a concession fare of $1.50

* full fare between San Remo and Cowes will be $4.00, with a concession fare of $2.00.

"These short distance fares are lower than last year and have been set to encourage people to use the service," said Mr Sanderson.

Timetables for the service will be available from Bass Coast Customer Service Centres, Tourist Information Centres and Community Houses, with information on timetables and fares posted on community notice boards and Council’s website.

Timetables will also be advertised in the local newspapers on a regular basis throughout the summer.

"We are hoping that the community continue to support the service and that the number of passengers will exceed those of last year," said Mr Sanderson. "That will be a success for public transport in Bass Coast Shire."
