The Latrobe City Youth Action Centres are holding a football clinic conducted by local boy and Kangaroo star Troy Makepeace, at Gaskin Park, Churchill on Thursday 21 August.

By Latrobe City Council - 13th August 2003 - Back to News

Youth Action Centre worker, Tanya Harrington said that the clinic would be supported by the coaches and players from the Churchill Football Club.

"This will be a great opportunity for all young people to come to Churchill and receive expert tuition in the skills of Australian Rules, as well as having a great evening out," Ms Harrington said.

"Having a role model will empower young people to start an interest in sport or to keep playing sport, which is important for health, wellbeing and team and community spirit," Ms Harrington said.

Ms Harrington said that the evening would begin at 5pm, with the football clinic running for an hour until 6pm.

"As well as the football clinic, there will be lots of giveways, including signed footballs and a free barbecue. Transport will be available to and from the event with pick-ups from Moe Youth Action Centre in Elizabeth St; One Stop Shop in Princes Drive, Morwell and Traralgon Youth Action Centre, corner Shakespeare Street and Jones Court. There will be a nominal fee of $1 and bookings are essential. Please call Latrobe City One Stop Shop on 5132 2800," Ms Harrington explained.

"This will be a great night, and we are hoping to attract a large number of young people. They will be able to participate and learn with the knowledge and experience of an AFL player, as well as having fun," Ms Harrington concluded.

Churchill Youth Action Centre is open every Wednesday 4pm –7pm.

Moe Youth Action Centre is open every Tuesday 4pm – 8pm

Traralgon Youth Action is open every Monday 4pm – 8pm.

These centres offer structured activities for young people between the ages of 12 and 18.
