By Russell Northe - 15th January 2014 - Back to News

• Coalition Government continuing to support manufacturing in Victoria Member for Morwell Russell Northe today called on companies and individuals in Latrobe City and the wider Gippsland region to nominate for the 2014 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards. Mr Northe said the Manufacturing Hall of Fame recognises the innovation, productivity and contribution made by manufacturers to the local economy. "We have some extremely innovative, quality-driven and committed manufacturers in our region, and these awards highlight true excellence," Mr Northe said. "In recent years the Australian manufacturing sector has been dealing with increased international competition and a strong Australian dollar. "It is extremely important that we promote the excellence and ingenuity of Victorian manufacturers and their long history in this state." The Manufacturing Hall of Fame was established in 2001 and over the past 13 years, the awards have celebrated 131 innovative companies, added 26 recipients to the Honour Roll, and recognised 10 young Manufacturers of the Year. "The Victorian Coalition Government is strongly committed to the manufacturing industry and is determined to showcase companies and individuals who have used innovation and diversification to take on global markets," Mr Northe said. The theme of the 2014 Manufacturing Hall of Fame will be „Transformative Manufacturing‟, which increases productivity and site capacity whilst significantly reducing process time and energy use. Examples include; additive manufacturing, innovative applications of laser, ultraviolet and electron beam processing, as well as novel approaches to producing and using biopolymers. Mr Northe said the judging panel will be looking for creative and energetic solutions to manufacturing challenges, in particular innovative pathways to improving productivity and accessing new markets. "Gippsland has some very successful and innovative manufacturers and I encourage local manufacturers of all sizes to nominate for these awards, demonstrating the inventive capacity of one of Victoria‟s biggest industries," Mr Northe said. "Nominations are open until Friday 14 February 2014, and the awards will be announced at a gala industry ceremony on Monday 16 June 2014." Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Business Victoria website at www.business.vic.gov.au/industries/manufacturing/awards Media contact: Russell Northe 5133 9088
