protects vegetation and directs medium density development around the town centre.

Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said Council had made an important decision – balancing the need for land supply with protecting the character of Inverloch.

"Throughout this review, we’ve heard from the Inverloch community about protecting the character of their town and not letting it sprawl," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

"There is currently over 55 hectares of land available within the existing town boundary which Council believes is enough.

"This review retains the existing town boundary, protects native vegetation and allows for medium density development, like units and townhouses, around the centre of town."

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Veronica Dowman said the decision was consistent with how Council manages growth on a Shire-wide basis.

"Our research over the past eight years has shown that Inverloch is large enough and growth should be directed to Wonthaggi," said Cr Dowman.

"The decision last night is consistent with this planning work we’ve done.

"This review confirms and strengthens the initial Inverloch Design Framework of 2003.

"It was reviewed by a second consultant and had input from the Inverloch community, Council and the Inverloch Community Planning Group.

"We would like to thank these groups for their involvement," continued Cr Dowman.

The Inverloch Design Framework will be reviewed again in five years.

Council now needs to prepare the planning scheme amendment to implement this decision.
