Regional Skate Park Back on Track
Grayden’s Reserve: preferred site for a Regional Skate Park and Play Space.
Bass Coast Shire Council has identified Grayden’s Reserve in Newhaven as the preferred site for a Regional Skate Park and Play Space.
This comes after the plan to locate the facility on the San Remo foreshore was abandoned earlier in the year, due to site limitations.
Grayden’s Reserve has been selected because it has a high level of natural surveillance and is a suitable size with adequate car-parking. The Reserve is in close proximity to shops and public transport and has existing toilet and barbecue facilities on site. The Reserve’s existing recreation skate park and play space are temporary or ageing and are ready to be upgraded.
An information session and barbecue will be held at Grayden’s Reserve on Tuesday, 22 October from 3.00pm to 7.00pm to discuss the next steps for the project.
"The community is invited to drop in at any time, have a bite to eat and chat with Council Officers and Councillors about the project," Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said.
"Community members have the opportunity to join the ‘Grayden’s Reserve Working Group’, and work with Council and consultants Playce to design the upgrade of the Reserve.
"We are expecting the concept design for the Project to be on public exhibition for final community feedback by March 2020."
The Reserve is owned by Regional Roads Victoria, who have provided in-principle support for the Project. Council currently maintains the Reserve which is already home to several Council assets, including public toilets, a playground and a concrete skate and basketball pad. Council’s mobile skate ramp visits the site on a rostered calendar.
The Project has been allocated $1.5 million in Council’s 2019/20 Budget, which includes $650,000 from the State Government.

Grayden’s Reserve in Newhaven has been selected as the preferred site for a new Regional Skate Park and Play Space. Community consultation on this exciting Project is now underway.
