Wonthaggi Wind Turbine Erection Sparks Further OutrageThe construction of the first Wonthaggi Wind Turbine is underway, the shaft clearly visible from Kilcunda to Wonthaggi. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 5th September 2005 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, says the erection of the turbines has made the folly of the State Government’s decision highly visible.
"Council believes that its strong opposition to the towers and concern about the impact on the coastal landscape between Kilcunda and Wonthaggi is justified," he said.
Council has received numerous complaints and enquires in relation to the turbines since construction began this week.
Mr Bawden said residents who wish to voice their concerns should do so directly with the Hon. Robert Hulls, Minister for Planning at PO Box 500, East Melbourne 3002.
"Council remains concerned that the current State Policy and guidelines for wind farms do not address community concerns and the impacts on landscapes. "We call on the Minister for Planning to review and improve the Victorian Government’s policies and guidelines to ensure the mistake made in approving the Wonthaggi Wind Farm is not repeated," Mr Bawden stated.
