Praise for public patience during pipeline scouring

The year’s biggest pipe maintenance works for Westernport Water are complete and 11,000 households should soon be noticing better-quality water.

Managing Director Murray Jackson said: "We want to thank everyone for their patience during this month-long air scouring process.

"We recognise it was an inconvenience for residents and local businesses. The number of complaints was minimal and this suggests that people understood the work our crews were doing.

"We anticipate the maintenance program means better water for all," he said.

Compressed air was used to blast the inside of underground pipes with water sluiced through the pipes under pressure.

Mr Jackson said: "We tried to ensure everyone knew beforehand that the works were taking place by letterboxing every property, putting news and advertisements in local newspapers and on websites.

He said Westernport Water teams worked as quickly as possible to avoid excess water loss and inconvenience to customers. "The only incidents were teething problems at the outset. Once the teams settled into a pattern they worked quickly and efficiently," he said. "Our customers now won’t have to face maintenance work of that magnitude again for at least a year.

"And again, we thank them for their patience."
