Rainwater Tank Grants Available For Rebuilding CommunituiesThose who lost their homes in the 2009 bushfires now have access to the Rainwater Tank Grants for Bushfire Destroyed Homes, Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has announced. By Russell Northe - 23rd March 2010 - Back to News Following Parliament contributions made in July 2009, and correspondence made directly with the Premier’s office in the following months, the one off grant will be provided to residents rebuilding homes after the 2009 bushfires for the purpose of purchasing and installing rainwater tanks.
"This is a great win for those who lost their homes in the Boolarra and Black Saturday bushfires who were previously unable to access the schemes due to guideline stipulations that rebates were only for existing households," Mr Northe said.
"I believe this incentive will make a significant difference to the lives of many Victorian families who have suffered due to the loss of their homes. The escalating costs and time involved in rebuilding has been a huge burden for many of these families.
"Grants available range from $500 for a 2000-3999 litre tank connected to all toilets, to $1000 for a 4000+ litre tank, connected to all toilets and laundry.
"I highly encourage residents to see whether they fit the eligibility criteria, and inform their neighbours, friends and family who may also be entitled.
"After many months of follow up, this is indeed positive news, and I high encourage all those affected to contact rebates@sustainability.vic.gov.au, or 1300 363 744 for more information and eligibility criteria.
"I am pleased the Brumby Government took up the suggestion and welcome news the Rainwater Tank Grants for Bushfire Destroyed Homes will be made available for access by communities rebuilding post fires.
