Final Environmental Policy draft available for public viewingWellington Shire Council’s final draft Environmental Policy is available for public viewing until 1 November following the recent community consultation period. By Wellington Shire Council - 7th October 2004 - Back to News The policy will assist the council and the community in working together to maintain a sustainable and liveable environment for residents and visitors, covering a number of issues for action such as:
- promoting conservation and the ecologically sustainable use of resources to reduce waste and minimise pollution;
- improving the management, drainage and quality of water in the shire;
- protecting and enhancing native vegetation;
- promoting environmentally sustainable development within industries, including timber and agriculture;
- protecting and improving the atmosphere and climate;
- achieving economic development in an environmentally sustainable way;
- promoting a high level of environmental awareness within local government.
Copies of the final draft policy are available for viewing at the council’s Sale and Yarram service centres, and can also be found on its web site www.wellington.vic.gov.au. Anyone who would like more information can call Wellington’s Environmental Planner Colleen Murphy on 1300 366 244.
The policy is being put forward for formal adoption at the 2 November Council Meeting.
