Glengarry Cfa Recognised In Parliament Member for Morwell Russell Northe in Parliament yesterday congratulated Glengarry Fire Brigade members and volunteers for their service to the local community. By Russell Northe - 27th November 2013 - Back to News Mr Northe joined the Minister for Police and Emergency Services Kim Wells last Sunday to visit the Glengarry Fire Station, marking the end of Fire Action Week.
"The Minister formally opened the new $434,000 Station and handed over the keys for a new $335,000 tanker. The new station replaces sheds that existed for both the Glengarry and Glengarry West brigades and the improvement of amenity and space is a stark contrast," Mr Northe said in Parliament.
"The new medium tanker will also assist members to tackle fires in the region, which have unfortunately been prevalent in recent years. Members of both Glengarry and Glengarry West have in the past fought substantial campaign fires including the Black Saturday bushfires, and on behalf of our community we thank the members and volunteers for their dedicated service."
"On Sunday, many service medals were presented along with those who received life membership including Don Duncan, Joy Waltham, Ken Markham and George Waltham from Glengarry and Helen Henry, Wendy Farmer, Dave Farmer and Ian Christensen from Glengarry West," Mr Northe went on to say.
"These members have given amazing service to the community, and in Ian’s case 50 years, so on behalf of the Morwell electorate I say congratulations and well done".
Mr Wells, who visited Glengarry, Munro and Walhalla Fire Stations on Sunday, said, "Over $1 million has been spent on these fire stations as part of the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to upgrading firefighting facilities and infrastructure across the state." "Gippsland CFA members show a tireless commitment to community safety and I know these new stations will facilitate their efforts, serving the region well into the future."
Mr Wells also thanked local MPs for their unwavering support to the CFA and the representations they made on behalf of their local brigades to get these stations opened today. Particular thanks was given to Philip Davis, Peter Hall, Edward O’Donohue, Gary Blackwood, Russell Northe, Tim Bull, and Federal MPs Russell Broadbent and Darren Chester.
The new stations were opened on the final day of Fire Action Week, Victoria’s annual bushfire awareness week.
Mr Wells said Fire Action Week is a key opportunity for Victorians to plan and prepare for fire.
"Community members across Gippsland should take this opportunity to talk to their household about their plans for a high-risk day," he said.

"If you are unsure, discuss your risk with your local CFA brigade and find out where to go for Fire Danger Ratings and warnings.
"I encourage all Victorians to visit CFA’s website for planning and preparation information. Remember, no matter where you live you need to be ready to act. "The message is simple – leave and live."
