Indigenous songman and storyteller Dave Arden at TraralgonDave Arden, will bring his poetic blend of music, storytelling, culture and history to Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on 28 July. By news@gippsland - 19th July 2016 - Back to News One of Australia’s most prolific and accomplished musicians, Dave Arden, will bring his poetic blend of music, storytelling, culture and history to Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on 28 July.
Latrobe City Council’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said Arden will present 12 original songs and stories of the hope, joy and struggle of his tribal and urban life.
"The show takes the audience on a journey into Arden’s two countries, of the Gunditjmara and the Kokatha tribes, telling his story of his family’s journey over four generations," Ms Roberts said.
"Dave comes from the Kokatha peoples of the west coast of South Australia and the Gunditjmara peoples in south-western Victoria. His poetic songs are inspired by a deep passion of love for country, Dave’s upbringing and his family with whom he shares a special, spiritual and cultural connection.
"This show represents a collective history between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. These stories of freedom fighters, Irish settlers, Gunditjmara soldiers in the world wars and a new generation of leaders are interwoven with song and music."
Arden has been nominated for a Deadly Award for Best Male Artist in 2012, and again in 2013 for Best Single Release of the Year for the acclaimed track ‘Freedom Called’.
Indigenous artist Archie Roach has described him as "one of the finest vocalists and songwriters in the world and one of the best guitarists you will ever hear".
Tickets to Dave Arden’s performance at 8pm on Thursday, 28 July are available at the box office, by phone 5176 3333 or at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/lpawhatson
