Opening the new improved facility

Federal Member for Monash Russell Broadbent and Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today joined Latrobe City Mayor Sharon Gibson to officially open the new and improved facility. Despite a delay in formalities due to COVID-19, user groups have been flourishing in the redeveloped arena as the sport and recreation resurgence continues.

COVID-safe facility

Moe and District Netball Association President Tamara Kennedy said the renovations had proved revolutionary for the venue, which is set to host local association championships in the coming weeks. "It’s been widely applauded by netball in the Valley; we’ve got safety, security, the courts are fantastic and the surface is amazing."

"Because it’s so state of the art it made it really easy to run a competition in COVID… while every other sporting club was struggling we had our biggest year in 25 years with 2500 people (kids and adults) through the facility." she said.

Funded the redevelopment

Newborough Tennis Club and Adrenalin Paintball Club are the other primary user groups of the reserve. Local company Langden Constructions built the pavilion and Ace Earthmoving led court and carpark works. The Monash Reserve redevelopment project was funded by $3 million from the Victorian Government, $800,000 from the Federal Government and $100,000 from Latrobe City Council.

Recreational upgrades for community’s wellbeing

Latrobe City Mayor Sharon Gibson said, "This project has been near and dear to the people of Moe and Newborough for many years now and it’s a proud day for us to stand as one and officially open this sensational space."

"Sport and active recreation is crucial to our culture, health and wellbeing; we’ve worked hand in hand with our community and all tiers of government to deliver the facilities our local clubs, associations and athletes of all levels need and deserve."

"We are also looking forward to ongoing work with Adrenalin Paintball to establish a quality field that can once again bring international, national, interstate and local players together showcasing our community. Being able to have a facility of this standard will enable them to attract the very best."
