Come To A Party – A Garden PartyBetween 1950 and the early 1970s, the Wonthaggi Hospital Garden Party was a highlight of the local social calendar. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 4th February 2010 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council, with the Centenary Planning Committee and a number of community groups are recreating this event to celebrate Wonthaggi’s 100th Birthday.
Bass Coast Mayor, Peter Paul, said this year’s Garden Party was a party not to be missed.
"It will be a good old fashioned party, including entertainment for the kids and with a Make, Bake and Create theme, you can expect to see plenty of home made treats and treasures," said Cr Paul
"It is a great fund raising opportunity for local community groups, but stalls are also available for local businesses and operators."
If you’ve got a flair for fashion then the Miss or Matron of the Garden Party might be just what you’re after.
"Past winner of both awards and Bass Coast local, Carmel Lynch, is involved with organising the competition."
Ms Lynch said she was excited the Garden Party was being re-created.
"The Wonthaggi Evening VIEW club are organising the competition. We are asking people to register for the competition beforehand, but we will take entries right up until the day," said Ms Lynch.
There will be four separate categories for the Miss and Matron Competition. They are; Junior Miss (8-14 years), Miss Garden Party (15+ years), Matron of the Garden Party (married ladies) and Best 50s and 60s outfit
