Shire Looks For Business Mentors

Experienced business people are being sought to become mentors for the 'Enterprising East Gippsland' program.

To be run by the East Gippsland Shire Council over the next 18 months, the program is designed to help those running small businesses to develop and improve their skills.

The Shire’s economic development unit is looking for people with business experience, such as retired business owners, who are willing to provide their skills to other local businesses.

Shire Group Manager Council John Websdale said that the program needs a up to 20 business mentors with appropriate qualifications and experience.

"This would give us a reservoir of talent with the depth of experience necessary to provide valuable assistance to local businesses," he said.

"We know there are a number of well qualified and highly experienced people moving into the region whose background and knowledge could make a big difference to many of our small businesses.

"This program could provide an opportunity for these talented people to make a valuable contribution to the development of the region as well as providing an interest and the chance to make some extra money."

Mr Websdale said mentors could be successful current or retired business people who have experience and expertise in operating and managing a small business.

"We are looking for a wide variety of skills including financial management, customer relations, marketing, stock management and logistics," he said.

"Anyone interested in such a position should contact Melissa Bentzen of the Shire’s Economic Development Unit," Mr Websdale said.
