Get ahead with the Gallery’s new workshopBy Latrobe City Council - 21st September 2005 - Back to News Milliner Carolyn Schoo of Hats Ahead Millinery, will be running a workshop on Sunday 2 October at the Latrobe Regional Gallery on designing and creating a headpiece which can be worn for a day at the races or any other special occasion.
Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that the October workshop was timely, with the spring racing season imminent.
"Carolyn teaches millinery through GippsTAFE in Morwell and her hats regularly feature at raceday fashion parades and charity fundraisers, weddings, and special occasions throughout Victoria and interstate. Each year she participates in the Millinery Association of Australia's Spring Racing Parades at Flemington," Ms Tegart explained.
"Participants can be inspired by her artistry and create their own individually designed sinamay (woven fabric) head piece. All materials are supplied in the form of a millinery kit and are included in the cost of the workshop," Ms Tegart added.
Ms Tegart said that the Gallery’s monthly inspirational and creative workshops were aimed at giving community members the opportunity to develop new skills and enjoy artistic pursuits.
"These workshops are designed to allow members of the public to work alongside artists and professionals who specialise in their field, as well as learning how these artists apply and manipulate media to communicate ideas and create artworks," Ms Tegart concluded.
The workshop will be held at the Gallery on Sunday 2 October from 11am to 4pm. The cost of the workshop is $66 which includes materials. Bookings can be made at the Gallery on 5128 5700.
