Time running out to ‘Write Around Australia’Time is running out for students in Grades 5 and 6 to enter their stories in the ‘NESTLÉ Write Around Australia’ competition which closes on Friday 14 May. By Latrobe Shire Council - 15th April 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City Library Manager, Peggy Stevenson, said that many talented young writers from throughout Latrobe had already entered their stories into the competition.
"Since entries began this year for the ‘NESTLÉ Write Around Australia’ competition our eyes have been opened to the large number of talented young writers who live in the local area. Hopefully a State or national winner will emerge from the wonderful stories that local libraries have received for the competition so far," Ms Stevenson said.
"The competition cleverly encourages children to write creative stories by offering a range of wonderful prizes for the best entries. This year the prizes include collections of classic Australian children’s books, backpacks full of Nestlé products and a laptop computer package complete with a printer and software."
As an extra prize to mark the tenth anniversary of ‘NESTLÉ Write Around Australia’ two winners from each State and Territory will also be flown to Sydney with their parents to attend the national winners’ presentation ceremony in early December.
"Latrobe City libraries hope to encourage more children to read, write and make use of local library services by actively supporting events such as the ‘NESTLE Write Around Australia’ competition," Ms Stevenson said.
"Local libraries will also host Australian children’s author, Phil Kettle, for a week of creative writing workshops in July and local schools are invited to bring their students to take part in these workshops," Ms Stevenson concluded.
Entry forms for the ‘NESTLÉ Write Around Australia’ competition are available from all Latrobe City libraries and primary schools. Stories can also be entered via the Internet at www.writearound.com.au.
