By Bass Coast - 29th May 2013 - Back to News

Purchased in 2012, this 16 hectare site is located in Ventnor Road is currently known as Crown Allotment 79.

Council recently engaged Simon Leisure Consulting to develop a master plan for this site.

Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said the need to develop long-term master plans for reserves was identified in Council's Recreation Plan.

"This master plan will shape the long-term vision for the reserve for the next 25 years and identify short, medium and long term priorities," Mr Piasente said.

Council will be engaging with the community in several ways to fully understand what is required for this reserve in the future.

Over the past couple of weeks, Simon Leisure Consulting Director, Richard Simon and Council Officers have been undertaking site visits and meeting with key groups from across Phillip Island, and will hold further consultation with schools, and other organisations in the coming weeks.

Council has sent 350 resident surveys to a random sample of home owners and 50 surveys have been hand delivered to the houses closest to the reserve.

"The survey is also available on Council’s website (www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/ca79) and we encourage everyone to fill out a survey," Mr Piasente said.

Survey submissions close on 7 June.

As a follow up to this, a community meeting will be held at 7.00pm on Monday, 17 June at 7.00pm at the Cowes Cultural Centre, 91-97 Thompson Avenue, Cowes. Results from the residents’ survey will be presented at this meeting and allow another opportunity to engage with local residents about the site.

Council expects that the draft Master Plan for the reserve will be available for public exhibition in September 2013. If you would like to receive a copy of the draft Master Plan, please contact Council’s Arts and Leisure Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
