Rushes were recorded on free-range eggs, honey, asparagus and walnuts, with some producers selling out of stock within the first hour of the market.

Wellington Shire Mayor, John Jago was pleased with the outstanding display of support from the local community for the event.

‘Such strong community backing for our local food and wine producers, confirms that there is definitely an opportunity for a monthly Farmers’ Market in Sale.

Wellington Shire Council is very happy to provide residents with an interactive food buying experience at a quality level where shoppers have the opportunity to discuss the product with the producer.’

The Wellington Farmers’ Market, is held on the third Saturday of each month at the Greenwattle Racecourse, with the Christmas Market being held on 20 December. An initiative of Wellington Shire Council, Sale Turf Club and local producers, it enables local residents to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, gourmet foods, cheese, wine, preserves and pickles direct from producers based in the Shire and Gippsland.

Local growers and producers who would like the opportunity to sell their produce directly to Wellington residents are welcome to book a stall for the next Farmers’ Market by telephoning Wellington Shire Council’s Economic Development Officer, Paul Telfer on 5142 3380.
