Latrobe City Council is advising motorists to avoid roads being used by the cyclists and take alternative routes where possible.

On Tuesday 27 November the cyclists will travel from Foster to Yinnar. A heavy volume of cyclists leading to possible vehicular traffic delays can be expected on the Meeniyan – Mirboo North Road (C455) between 8am and 12 noon. Suggested detour for north-bound vehicles is via Leongatha on the A440 and B460.

There will be a partial road closure of the Boolarra - Mirboo North Road (Baromi Rd C456) from 11am - 3pm. The closure affects all Mirboo North bound traffic. Delays are expected for Boolarra bound traffic. Suggested detour – Strzelecki Highway (B460). Delays can also be expected for north-bound vehicles travelling between Boolarra and Yinnar (C456) approximately 12 noon – 4pm.

To ensure the safety of the community and riders during the overnight stay in Yinnar, the following road closures will be in place in the township on Tuesday 27 November from 12 noon until 10.30pm:

  1.  Main Street - from primary school to the Yinnar Hotel drive-through.
  2. Jumbuk Road - from Monash Way to Main Street

The road closures will be manned during these times and only emergency services and advised vehicles will be allowed access. Please contact the Latrobe City Events Team on 1300 367 700 if you require access to these roads during the specified times.

On Wednesday 28 November cyclists will ride from Yinnar to Rawson. Delays can be expected from approximately 6.30am – 10am for northbound traffic on the Yinnar-Driffield Road. Suggested detours via Monash Way or Brodribb Road. Delays can also be expected for west-bound traffic on the Driffield-Thorpdale Road west to Lilleys Road.

Delays can be expected from approximately 8am–12 noon for north-bound traffic between the Driffield-Thorpdale Road intersection with Lilleys Road and the Merv Burrage Reserve Newborough. The cyclists’ route is via Narracan, Coalville and Gunns Gully and incorporates Lilleys Road and parts of McDonalds Track, Narracan Connection Road, Coalville Road, Two Mile Road and John Field Drive.

Delays can be expected from approximately 9am – 3pm for west-bound traffic on Old Sale Road between John Field Drive Newborough and Moore Street Moe. Delays can be expected by north-bound traffic on the Moe – Rawson Road (C466). Rawson-bound through traffic is advised to detour via the Tyers-Rawson Road (C481).

On Thursday 29 November cyclists will travel from Rawson to Maffra. Delays may be experienced by motorists from 6.30am to 11am on the Rawson-Tyers Road (C481). Delays may be experienced by motorists on the Tyers – Glengarry Road and Glengarry - Maffra Road from approximately 9am – 3pm.

Where motorists are unable to take alternative routes, they are asked to reduce speed when encountering cyclists, overtake only when safe to do so, give cyclists at least 1.5 metres clearance when overtaking, and anticipate more cyclists ahead.
