By Bass Coast Shire Council - 1st August 2006 - Back to News Cerebral palsy most commonly affects muscle control, mobility or communication. Every 18 hours a child can be born with or develop CP in early childhood. There is no pre-birth test and no known cure.
The Awareness Week is celebrated nationally and is being spearheaded in Victoria by Scope, a leading service provider.
Chief Executive Officer of Scope, Vici Funnell says the Awareness week is a vital part of their annual program.
"Its about making our community more inclusive, more accessible and more welcoming, so that people with a disability can feel valued and able to participate with a sense of belonging.
"So much more research is needed into the causes of CP," continued Ms Funnell.
"It is currently the most common form of childhood disability in the world."
