Scout Halls Upgraded at Newborough and TraralgonScout halls at Newborough and West Traralgon reopens today. By Portal Admin - 8th December 2019 - Back to News Scout halls at Newborough and West Traralgon have been re-opened today after extensive upgrade works made possible by the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today officially reopened the halls, upgraded as part of $430,813 from the Labor Government through the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund to upgrade six Scout Halls across the Latrobe Valley.
Works at the halls included accessibility improvements, toilets, extensions, asbestos removal, heating and cooling, fencing, termite damage repair, floor upgrades and restumping, improved lighting, insulation, solar panels, carpet and other general improvements to make the Valley’s scout halls better for all users.
Upgrades at the Newborough Scout Hall included new air conditioning, electrical upgrades, security upgrades and a concrete extension to the front veranda to allow for all abilities access – while West Traralgon received a new hall floor, asbestos removal, kitchen refurbishment, air-conditioning, and toilet replacement.
Community volunteers and local contractors played a big part in both the upgrade projects, including works undertaken by True Join Constructions, BJ’s Plumbing, Sharper Electrics, AdSolar, and Choices Flooring by Pauls – boosting local economies and securing jobs in the Valley.
All six Scout halls - Trafalgar, Stratford, Glengarry and Maffra as well as Newborough and West Traralgon – have also had solar panels installed as part of the funding.
The Latrobe Valley Authority’s $20 million Community and Facility Fund is supporting community-led initiatives and partnerships that will help make the Latrobe Valley a better place to live.
