Vicroads To Repair Bunurong Coastal Road VicRoads will undertake repair work and relocation of sewer mains at Bunurong Coastal Road, Inverloch over the summer period. By Bass Coast Shire - 14th November 2005 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Parks and Roads Manager, Mr Fred Huitema, confirmed VicRoads would embark on a number of projects to address the partially subsided embankment supporting the Bunurong Coastal Road at Inverloch.
Sewer relocation
"VicRoads conducted an investigation into a section of the embankment supporting Bunurong Coastal Road in the vicinity of ‘The Caves’," explained Mr Huitema.
"A pressure sewer main that transfers Inverloch’s waste water to the nearby treatment plant is located at this spot.
"South Gippsland Water has undertaken to relocate the pressure main prior to works to reinforce the embankment.
"The plan is for this work to take place next month," he said.
Tenders are currently open for suitable contractors for the sewer relocation. Kellogg Brown & Root P/L has been engaged by South Gippsland Water to undertake the detailed design and preparation of tender documents for the relocation works.
"Construction will occur in two stages," said Mr Huitema.
"The first stage is the laying of the new pipeline, expected to take up to three days to complete.
"Stage two, cutting into the existing pipe, will occur approximately one week later, after the concrete poured in stage one has set.
"Stage two will take one to two days to complete," he advised.
Mr Huitema said that substantial traffic disruption would occur during these works, with both lanes of traffic expected to be closed during stage one of the work and at least one lane being closed during stage two.
VicRoads reinforcement
"VicRoads will then reinforce the embankment in this area to stabilise the road," informed Mr Huitema.
He confirmed that the VicRoads work would start this work early in 2006, following work by South Gippsland Water on the sewer main.
Anyone wanting further information on these projects should contact VicRoads on 131 170.
