School holiday workshops at Gallery

The Latrobe Regional Gallery will be running an exciting program of Spring holiday workshops for children throughout September.

Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that the workshops provide children with a fun and creative environment in which they can express themselves and also learn new art, craft and communication skills.

"The workshops that were held over the last holidays were a great success. Children from throughout Latrobe City came to the Gallery to take part and they all left smiling ear-to-ear, proudly displaying the artwork that they had made in the classes," Ms Tegart said.

"The September workshops will teach children crafts that are fun, and will promote creative thinking, such as finger puppet making and magnet making. The techniques used in the workshops will be simple and fun so that children can use them again to create their own school holiday fun in the future," Ms Tegart said.

Tuesday 21 September, 2pm - 3.30pm
Painted Pots and Garden Decorations
Using leaves, stencils and interesting recycled materials participants will create a colourful pot, as well as decorations to make a favourite indoor plant simply spectacular!

Thursday 23 September, 2pm - 3.30pm
Funky Finger Puppets
Participants will make fabulous little friends out of paper, felt and ribbon as well as lots of other bits and pieces from the workshop’s collection of wacky objects!

Tuesday 28 September, 2pm - 3.30pm
Magnificent Magnets
Using recycled materials, pegs and lots of glitter, participants will make their own magnets to jazz up the fridge!

The workshops are open to children of all ages. However, those under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of each workshop is $7.70 per participant, which includes all materials, except for the weaving workshop, which is $11. Children must wear old clothes and bookings are essential.

"Join us again at the Gallery for school holiday fun with these exciting workshops run by Kelly Boucher," Ms Tegart suggested.
