School Photography Clicks Back into Action

Ban on professional school photography in Government schools has been overturned.

Member for Morwell Russell Northe has welcomed news that the ban on professional school photography in Government schools has been overturned.

Mr Northe said he had previously raised the issue in Parliament and to various State Government Ministers following concerns raised by many within local school communities and from professional photographers.

"The ban particularly in Regional Victoria seemed to make little sense given the resumption of school for Term 4 had commenced and a number of activities were allowable in our school communities" said Mr Northe.

"Parents of students had expressed their disappointment in the ban and raised concerns that important milestone events in their children’s school years could be missed in an already disrupted and challenging year" Mr Northe continued.

"Many small businesses who rely upon working within our schools for photography purposes and who create such cherished memories were also terribly upset at the ban on school photography when it was first announced" Mr Northe said.

"Subsequently I had strongly raised these matters in Parliament and to the attention of the Minister for Education seeking for the ban to be abolished, and I and many others are pleased and relieved that the Government has now seen fit to apply what really is a common-sense decision" Mr Northe concluded.

More people who work outdoors will be able to return to work. Groups of up to five workers who work outside, including those who do the following types of work can return to on-site work:

• outdoor professional photography including school photos (for purposes other than currently permitted purposes, e.g. media, real estate), they must have an ABN.
