Tyers Hall refurbishment celebratedThe $100,000 refurbishment of the Tyers Public Hall has been completed By Latrobe City Council - 15th May 2001 - Back to News The $100,000 refurbishment of the Tyers Public Hall has been completed and the improved facilities jointly declared open by State Member for Narracan, Ian Maxfield MP, and Latrobe City Mayor Councillor Brendan Jenkins.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins said the refurbishment works funded by matching grants from Latrobe City Council and the State Government’s Partnerships for growth, was a great credit to the Tyers community.
"Work has included the demolition of the existing meeting room to make way for the construction of the new meeting room structure to complement the existing building. There has also been a full kitchen and toilet refurbishment, and the general upgrade of lighting and other emergency features.
"The refurbished hall will act as a stimulus for local events by encouraging participation and becoming an even more integral centrepiece for the local community," Cr Jenkins said.
"We’ve consulted extensively with the Tyers community in this matter, and through a continuing partnership between the local community, and state and local governments, this re-development significantly enhances the functionality, appearance and use of this majestic old building, built over fifty years ago," Cr Jenkins added.
State Member for Narracan, Ian Maxfield, said the community was to be congratulated on the refurbishment.
"The local community has been actively involved in the entire hall re-development, and it is a credit to their determination and foresight that this facility has been developed to such a high standard. Not only is the hall a focal point for the local community, but the facility welcomes thousands of visitors every year during the Tyers and District Art Show," Mr Maxfield said.
Cr Jenkins added that Latrobe City looked forward to the many positive outcomes for the town following the hall’s refurbishment.
Events such township meetings, school discos, carols by candlelight, sporting club functions, weddings, birthdays, acoustic club meetings and many other township based activities will directly benefit as a result of this re-development," Cr Jenkins said.
