The Girls In Grey Visit For Anzac DayIn a special matinee performance to commemorate ANZAC Day the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre is presenting The Girls in Grey by Carolyn Bock and Helen Hopkins. Shortlisted for the National Play Festival and included on the VCE Drama Curriculum for 2012, this Shift Theatre production commemorates the service of the nurses who served during World War I.
Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said that having the play performed on ANZAC Day would add an even more poignant note to the work.
"With the centenary of The Great War approaching, this powerful story has been woven from eyewitness accounts and brings the voices of three Australian nurses into the theatre, in a vivid and candid retelling of life on active service.
"Brought to the stage by some of Melbourne’s finest performers and acclaimed by historians as deeply authentic and moving, The Girls In Grey is an important and widely accessible new Australian play that reaches across the generations, uniting young and old in a compelling
fusion of contemporary theatre and history," Ms Roberts said.
Founded by Carolyn Bock and Helen Hopkins, The Shift Theatre is focused on presenting dynamic works with strong roles for women, both from existing texts and in the development of new works. For more information check the website www.theshifttheatre.com
