Layout sign and drinking water fountain new additions for Rose GardenAnother iconic feature in Rose Garden By Portal Admin - 10th February 2018 - Back to News A drinking water fountain, gifted by Morwell Lions Club, and a new garden layout sign have been officially opened in the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden, with the event also marking the 100th anniversary of the Lions Clubs International.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the garden was an iconic feature in the town.
"We know that people travel not only from within Latrobe City, but from around Victoria and interstate. It is an internationally recognised rose garden and being able to provide signage information about what roses are planted where, as well as having access to fresh drinking water will make the experience a much more pleasant one for our visitors.
"Being able to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Lions Club International, a humanitarian community service organisation founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones in Chicago, USA. Since its inception it has become the largest community service organisation in the world and Latrobe City is well served through the Lions Clubs in Morwell, Moe, Traralgon and Churchill.
"The Morwell Lions Club president Anna Melarkey proudly marked the centenary by gifting a drinking fountain to the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden.
"The layout sign is the last in a series to be installed under this project for which ENGIE provided the funds through Advance Morwell. The first sign was a tourist information sign located at the tourism shelter on the north side of the garden. The second was a historical sign also on the north side of the garden."
Cr White added that the layout sign provided clear information on the rose plantings which was an impressive addition to the garden.
Representatives from the Morwell Lions Club, the Rose Garden Special Committee, Advance Morwell and ENGIE attended the event.
