"The treasures on tour relate to the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition of 1860–61, and include items such as a watercolour painting of Pyramid Hill and a scientific sketch of an owlet moth both by Ludwig Becker; the revolver owned by William Wills during the expedition; Robert Burke's last notes, written during his final days at the Cooper's Creek camp; stones used to grind nardoo seeds that Burke, Wills and King ate at Cooper's Creek and the brass initial plate from the box that carried Burke's and Wills' remains to Melbourne," Ms Skinner said. "This free family event will include an entertaining performance based on the life of expedition artist Ludwig Becker whose sketches and paintings recorded the conditions, landscapes and creatures encountered by the explorers. "This fascinating insight into the ill-fated expedition will give visitors a unique opportunity to see some of the items first-hand and to try to understand what it would have been like to be in the party. It will be well worth a visit to the library to take part," Ms Skinner concluded. Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the one and a half hour session. Places are limited so bookings are essential. Register your interest by contact Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700. Media Enquiries:
