Exciting Program Announced For ‘Sacred Footsteps’ TourThe program for the ‘Sacred Footsteps from the Roof of the World Australian Tour 2007’ has been announced with the six Buddhist monks visiting both the Latrobe Regional Gallery and the Moe Town Hall during the last week of July. By Latrobe City Council - 12th July 2007 - Back to News Latrobe Regional Gallery director, Jacqui Hemsley said that the monks would be creating mandalas in the gallery space, guiding the public in meditation sessions, and performing a Tibetan ritual dance and chanting concert at the Moe Town Hall.
"From Tuesday 24 July to Sunday 29 July, the monks will be creating sand mandalas in the gallery space. These beautiful yet temporary floor sand paintings represent an enlightened being’s place of residence and everything that is contained within it. We are delighted to be able to showcase the creativity behind these visually stunning pieces of art," Ms Hemsley said.
"On Thursday 26 July from 7.30pm at the Gallery, the monks will give a public talk on ‘Dealing with Stress – A Buddhist Perspective’. This discussion will run for an hour, and admission is $10. This talk is open to the public and bookings are essential," Ms Hemsley added.
"From 8.30am on Friday 27 July and Saturday 28 July, the monks will lead the public in guided meditations sessions at Latrobe Regional Gallery, facilitated by Geshe Sonam Thargye. The meditations run for half an hour, and are open to the general public. Admission is $10. Sessions are open to beginners, but still valuable for experienced students of meditation. Guests taking part in the meditation sessions are advised to bring their own cushions and chairs will be available for those who have difficulty sitting on the floor," Ms Hemsley explained.
"Finally, on Saturday 28 July from 7.30pm at the Moe Town Hall, the Tibetan Ritual Dance and Chanting Concert will take place. This will be a once in a lifetime experience, with rich brocades, exotic masks, the resonance of long brass horns and deep, booming drums. The performance runs for an hour. Admission is $16 for general, $11 for concession, and free for anyone 12 years of age or under," Ms Hemsley said.
"We look forward to welcoming the monks as they arrive in Latrobe City on Tuesday 24 July. We are excited to be a part of the world tour and that the people of Latrobe City will have the opportunity to share in the creativity, knowledge and cultural experiences that this visit will provide," Ms Hemlsey concluded.
Sacred Footsteps from the Roof of the World Tour will run until July 29.
