O’Brien Thanks Gippslanders For Support

The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria, Danny O’Brien, has thanked Gippslanders and the people of Eastern Victoria for their support after being formally re-elected this week.

By Danny O'Brien - 22nd December 2014 - Back to News

Mr O’Brien said it was a privilege to be elected by the people of the region to serve in the Legislative Council, after earlier this year being selected by The Nationals to replace the retiring Peter Hall.

"While it is disappointing the Coalition has narrowly lost government, it is an honour to be elected to serve the people of my home region. I will always put the interests of Gippsland first and will work hard to ensure the new Labor Government does not forget us.

"Labor made few commitments to Gippsland yet there is still plenty to be done. I will be working hard to ensure the government keeps its promise to govern for all Victorians."

Mr O’Brien said it was disappointing that his Gippsland-based Liberal colleague Andrew Ronalds had lost his seat as a result of preference swapping among minor parties.

"I think we have to question how representative the current system is when the five minor parties that have been elected to the Upper House all received less than four per cent of the primary vote in their respective electorates and some less than two per cent.

"Nonetheless, I will work with the Shooters and Fishers Party and all other members in Eastern Victoria to the benefit of the region."
